Girls Rock Monthly Ride > MORCA / Fort Ord

It's been a little while since our last ride, so we're extra excited to announce our first ride of 2019 at Fort Ord with MORCA! They're hosting us with coffee and breakfast bites at the Creekside Terrace Trailhead, followed by our signature raffle featuring fab prizes from from our partners Bell HelmetsCamelbak and Fox.

We'll be keeping with our usual format, breaking into groups by ride level and leaving in waves. If you're unsure about which group to ride with, take a look at our Ride Levels page. We'll have ladies from MORCA to help with guiding, but if you'd like to check out their trails in advance, head on to their website. Trail snacks are sponsored by Clif Bar, so don't forget to grab some for your ride!

Things to note:

  1. There will be a per person fee to cover the cost of a group ride permit at Fort Ord. Payment will be collected on the morning of the ride, so please bring cash ($6 per person) or by debit/credit card ($7 per person). All the money we collect will go directly to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

  2. Parking is limited, so please carpool! Sign up as a driver or passenger here.

  3. We'd love to hang out with you post-ride, so please pack some food and drink and we'll have a little tailgate party!

Our next ride in Soquel Demonstration Forest is happening Saturday, July 21! We'll be hosted by Trail Head Cyclery who is also putting on a fab lunch spread just for us, so be sure to stick around after the ride. Expect a great raffle giveaway with prizes from our partners CamelbakFox, and of course, the good folk of THC.

Try Something, Buy Something
Need a bike for the ride or just want to try something new? Use the code GirlsRockDemo! to book your demo bike on the THC website and get $50 off the rental fee. Should you decide to buy a bike, Trail Head Cyclery applies your demo dollars towards the bike you choose. You can pick up your bike from their shop on Friday and return it Saturday before 6 pm. And, if you’ve been looking to get more cycling kits, now’s your chance. THC will be setting up a mini boutique just for the ladies of Girls Rock, with lots of women’s apparel going at special prices.

Riding at SDF: What to expect
Long, hot and occasionally steep climbs — Please wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and carry lots of water as well as energy/electrolyte supplements.

Technical Singletrack — We’ll be leading Intermediate and Advanced riders into the singletrack, while Beginner riders will do a double-track out and back. Unfortunately, SDF isn’t a great introduction for New Riders, so we will not host that level this ride. We will resume the New Rider group in September.

Remoteness — SDF has no toilets or water. There are no nearby bike shops. If you run into a technical issue on the trails, you could be a long way from a bail-out point. Please come equipped with basics like a spare tube, tire levers, hand pump and multi-tool.

Schedule
9:00 am – Arrival, fuel, mingling, and guide meeting
9:30 am – Presentations, announcements
9:45 am – Raffle!
10:00 am – Roll out to the trails
12:00 - 2:00pm – Ride ends, taco eating and shopping begin!
NOTE: Please arrange to pick up and return your demo at Trail Head Cyclery. There will be no pick-up/return at the site of the ride.

Location & Parking
We will be riding at Soquel Demonstration Forest, 29400 Highland Way, Los Gatos. Click here for the official map of the area. Parking is on Hihn's Mill Road, just off Highland Way. We will be set up at the upper parking lot.

Eat something, win something
Not demo-ing a bike? Come early anyway to enjoy coffee and breakfast compliments of our hosts at Juliana.
