2022 BOARD ROLE DESCRIPTION

Girls Rock Women’s Mountain Biking Organization, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, will be accepting nominations for the following volunteer Officer roles on its board: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Our volunteer board, which administers the organization, is made up of up to seven directors and officers. Qualifications for nomination and criteria for acceptance include character, prior volunteer work, as well as professional experience. Candidates should embody the Girls Rock spirit of inclusivity and be passionate about promoting and supporting its mission: To inspire Bay Area women mountain bikers with rides and resources that are supportive, social, fun and confidence building.

Candidates should show they have participated in Girls Rock events, and demonstrate potential to take ownership of behind-the-scenes project management and varied administrative duties and tasks. Board members handle general operational and administrative needs, including communications, planning, and organization. The best qualified candidates will have demonstrated that as Girls Rock volunteers, they are effective collaborators, respected team members and sincerely want to give back, build and lift up our riding community. They will be strategic and resourceful planners, risk managers, positive thinkers, and be champions of diversity, equity and inclusion and sustainability.

Highly qualified candidates will also be passionate about supporting our rider demographic, which is largely beginner mountain bikers. Finally, organization directors have fiduciary responsibility to the organization, which means they must be objective, honest, trustworthy, efficient and act in the interest of the organization rather than in their personal interest or some other person or organization.

Board members are generously compensated through the sincere gratitude of our participants. Terms are for 2 years. Commitment ranges from a minimum estimated 10 hours monthly to 20 hours a week, year-round, depending on the collective engagement and support of fellow volunteers on each month’s event. Candidates must be able to help organize and volunteer at most Girls Rock events. These are scheduled at least once a month, in and around Santa Cruz. Mentorship, orientation and onboarding by current board members may be available.

Nominations will be accepted through Monday, August 1, 2022, 11:59 PM. Self-nominations are welcome. When nominated by someone else, the nominee will be contacted for a statement of interest, qualifications and confirmation of availability.

This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with other area women who are passionate about getting more women on bikes through organization of fun, confidence-building rides. We encourage you to join us and pay it forward. Complete our brief nomination form to let us know you're in!
