Race Curious > Wilder Ranch

In our next Race Curious event, we’re taking a closer look at one of Santa Cruz’s most beloved cross-country (XC) races: The Old Cabin Classic.

If you've never tried mountain bike racing, if you’ve thought of doing this race but weren't ready to try or even if you've raced it before but want to do better next time, this Race Curious event is for you!

Using the Old Cabin race route, we will:

  • Field general questions on racing
  • Discuss and test out different line options
  • Discuss and practice tricky sections
  • Learn how to prepare for and work towards a race
  • Cover important tips on nutrition and pre-race routines
  • Practice XC race-specific skills like mass starts, pacing, passing and strategy

You can look forward to a great morning of bonding, sharing and confidence-building with other Race Curious women just like yourself! To ensure that everyone gets enough attention and practice time, we're capping the participant number to 10 ladies.

Date: 23 July, Sunday
Time: 10am to 1pm
Location: We’ll meet near the public restrooms in Wilder Ranch State Park. Parking Lot
Parking: $10 per entry, or you could choose to park along Cabrillo Highway just before the turn into Wilder Ranch

If you’ve any questions, contact Sarah Jordan.

See you soon!

Girls Rock/Bell Joy Ride > Hosted by Trail House

Saturday, June 10th

This June’s Girls Rock ride is a special one: We’re heading up north to join our wheel-life sisters, Bell Joy Ride Santa Rosa! They’ll be taking our merry gang through the trails of Annadel State Park, where our no-drop, all-levels ride will traverse anything from wide doubletrack with amazing views, to wooded singletrack or even rocky superchunk heaven. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, we’ll also have a raffle of great gear from the likes of Clif Bar, Fox, Bollé, Bell and Camelbak!

Meet
YASSSS. Someone’s finally brought the holy trinity of beer, bites and bikes together and it’s called Trail House. You’ll want to get here early on Saturday morning for SightGlass coffee (classy!) and a snack while you check out the merch and the menus. Trail House is kindly giving us girls 10% off everything for one day only*, and don’t you think beer and shopping sounds like a great post-ride activity?
*Gift cards and labor not included

Eat
The Redwood Empire Mountain Bike Alliance (REMBA) is sponsoring our lunch after the ride. And a mini bike clinic. And a bike wash station. How awesome are they?! Make sure you stop by their tent to say hi and get to know these folks.

Exchange
Both Girls Rock and Bell Joy Ride Santa Rosa will be talking about who we are and what we do, so if you’ve never ridden with either group before, this will be a great opportunity to get to know us!

Schedule:
• 9:00 am – Arrival, fuel & mingling AND RIDE GUIDE MEETING for leaders and sweepers
• 9:45 am – Presentations, Announcements, and Raffle!
• 10:00 - 10:15 am – Roll out to the trails

Parking:
Private parking is available; overflow parking will be on the street.

Rain plan:
Rain will cancel the ride so please keep an eye on the weather and stay tuned for updates!

See you on Saturday, the 10th of June!

We are looking to make the Toro Enduro a fun, non-intimidating race by pre-riding together this weekend and joining up on the day of the race to soothe the pre-race jitters. Join us for an awesome, no-drop mountain bike ride at Soquel Demonstration Forest with great support from Trail Head Cyclery. Thanks to the generous folks at Trail Head, we have a unique opportunity to start our ride at Demonstration Forest, and enjoy a tailgate following.
Important Details About Demonstration (a.k.a. Demo) Forest - Please read!:

    • Demo is remote and can be hot. There are no facilities (unless you count a lone porta potty.) You’ll need to bring your own mountain bike, plenty of water and all riding essentials.
    • All the flat, level space at Demo is used for parking/driving. Since there is no area suitable for a New Rider clinic, we must omit the New Rider level this month and plan to resume in August.
    • Also, single-track at Demo is not suited to Beginners: Beginner options will be on fire roads, out-and-back, with gradual extended climbs.
    • Intermediate through Advanced ride levels all include steep climbing.
    • For more on skill levels, ride length and technical notes, see our Ride Levels page.

For this ride, we’ll follow our usual format, gathering at 9 am, have 9:30 announcements, then break into smaller groups by ride levels and roll out to the trails by 10am.

    Need a bike?
You can rent one of Trail Head’s amazing fleet of 50 high-end demo bikes by the night. Should you decide to buy a bike, Trail Head Cyclery applies your demo dollars towards the bike you choose. Girls Rock Riders are invited to rent from the THC fleet and save $25 with the promo code: GirlsRock! Visit their website to BOOK NOW. You can pick up your bike from their store in San Jose Saturday and return it Sunday before 6 pm.

    About Trail Head Cyclery
Trail Head’s owner, Lars Thomsen, grew up riding mountain bikes in the Santa Cruz mountains. When he established Trail Head Cyclery in 1997, he decided to focus first on mountain bike repairs, second on small parts and gear -- and last on selling complete mountain bikes. To this day, THC is known for being a full-service shop with ample inventory. In some circles, they are almost as well known for NOT carrying any road bikes. If you like to ride mountain bikes, this is a shop worth supporting. Primary lines include Yeti, Specialized, Giant/Liv, Ibis and Electra.

    July Ride Schedule:

    Starting Location

    Soquel Demonstration Forest
29400 Highland Way, Los Gatos, CA 95033

Do not leave valuables in your vehicle. There are regular break-ins here. If you have good clearance or 4W, feel free to cross the bridge, go up the steep drive and park in the dirt lot. If not, park where you first see other parked cars. Ride your bike across the bridge and up the drive to meet us.
