CANCELLED: Girls Rock > Specialized / Henry Coe Riders

November 2nd Update:

CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER:
Girls Rock & Specialized at Henry Coe, Saturday 4th Nov

All of us at Girls Rock and Specialized are really gutted to have to cancel the ride we had planned for this Saturday at Henry Coe.

We thank you all so much for your enthusiasm and support but with rain forecasted for Friday night and Saturday morning, we fear that 120 girls and their bikes would be too much for the delicate trails of Henry Coe. We're already in discussion with the good folk of Specialized on when we could reschedule this, and will let you know in due course.

Should the weather make a turn for the better, some of us at Girls Rock will be heading to Henry Coe for a totally casual, unofficial, intermediate-level ride. If you think you'd like to come hang out on bikes with us, keep tabs on our Facebook page. We'll let you know there if it's happening!

d944bfdf-22cc-4269-86ca-eaf528869961.jpg

We're super excited about this next ride! Not only are we venturing out to Henry Coe State Park, but we've got Specialized Bicycle Components hosting us and boy, are they rolling out the red carpet! They're making every stage of our ride extra special (see what we did there?) so instead of our usual introduction, we'll get right into the schedule with details on what you can look forward to.

8:30am – 9:15am: Yoga
Hosted by Specialized, this pre-ride yoga practice is sure to get you warmed up and ready to hit the trails. Please arrive a little before 8:30am to join the class, and bring your own yoga mat.

9:00am – 10:00am: Registration, DEMO BIKE pick-up, breakfast and mingling
YES! We will have women-specific demo bikes from Specialized available for this ride. Booking information will be provided with our next invitation, so look out for that one. Don't need a bike? Come early anyway to pick up your raffle ticket, enjoy a coffee, breakfast pastry and girl talk.

10:00am – 1:00pm: All levels head out to the trails
Specialized is sending each of our groups out with a mechanic for technical support, seeing as Henry Coe is quite remote. Isn't that amazing?

1:00pm – 2:00pm: Taco lunch and Raffle!
All groups should plan to be back by 1pm for a delicious taco lunch sponsored by Specialized. Don't get too lost in the carnitas because at 1:30pm, we'll hold our raffle with loads of prizes from Specialized as well as our partners Bell HelmetsCamelbak and Fox.

Location & Parking
We will be meeting at the Henry Coe State Park, at the Hunting Hollow Entrance. There is ample parking available. It usually costs $6 per car, but Specialized will be covering all our parking costs so just roll on up!

NEXT RIDE: Saturday September 23, Trail Head Cyclery

group.jpg

This September we’re venturing beyond our backyard and heading up to Soquel Demonstration Forest for a good time on bikes with Trail Head Cyclery. Make plans to stick around after the ride because they’re also putting up a fab lunch spread just for us! Expect a great raffle giveaway with prizes from our partners Bell Helmets, CamelbakFox, Redfrog Atheletic and of course, the good folk of THC.

Try Something, Buy Something
Need a bike for the ride or just want to try something new? Starting September 1, use the code GirlsRock17 to book your demo bike on the THC website and get $50 off the rental fee, plus two days for the price of one! Pick up your bike 10am-7pm Friday and sneak a ride in; then ride with us Saturday and return your demo bike before close at 6pm. And, if you’ve been looking to get more cycling kits, now’s your chance. THC will be setting up a mini boutique just for the ladies of Girls Rock, with lots of women’s apparel going at special prices.

Riding at SDF: What to expect
Long, hot and occasionally steep climbs — Please wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and carry lots of water as well as energy/electrolyte supplements.

Technical Singletrack — We’ll be leading Intermediate and Advanced riders into the singletrack, while Beginner riders will do a double-track out and back. Unfortunately, SDF isn’t a great introduction for New Riders, so we will not host that level this ride. We will resume the New Rider group in October.

Remoteness — SDF has no toilets or water. There are no nearby bike shops. If you run into a technical issue on the trails, you could be a long way from a bail-out point. Please come equipped with basics like a spare tube, tire levers, hand pump and multi-tool.

Schedule
9:00 am – Arrival, fuel, mingling, and guide meeting
9:30 am – Presentations, announcements
9:45 am – Raffle!
10:00 am – Roll out to the trails
12:00 - 2:00pm – Ride ends, taco eating and shopping begin!
Fun Tip – Pack a cooler with a your favorite beverages and stay for the post-ride lunch hosted by Trail Head Cyclery!

NOTE: Please arrange to pick up and return your demo at Trail Head Cyclery. There will be no pick-up/return at the site of the ride.

Location & Parking
We will be riding at Soquel Demonstration Forest, 29400 Highland Way, Los Gatos. Click here for the official map of the area. Parking is on Hihn's Mill Road, just off Highland Way. We will be set up at the upper parking lot.

Girls Rock March 11 > Ibis & Bell Helmets/Joy Ride Launch

Girls Rock Ride on March 11th – All Levels Welcome!

Hosted by Bell Joy Ride & Ibis Cycles

Ok, let's cross our fingers! Think HERO DIRT, and let the universe know we are ready to ride! Please join us Saturday March 11 for a no-drop mountain bike ride with the Bell Joy Ride ambassadors – a program inspired by our very own Girls Rock group. Ibis Cycles will be hosting us for an inspiring day for all levels of riders. And with any luck, we'll get out on the trails again!

Ibis Cycles has a very limited quantity of demo bikes available to reserve for a fee. Reservations are a must: The Ibis Demo Hotline is (831) 824-9311 or email them at demoanibis@gmail.com.

We’ll follow our usual format, breaking into groups by ride level and riding to surrounding trailheads, including UCSC bike path, Wilder and Emma McCrary. For info on ride levels, see our Ride Levels page.

Bell’s ambassadors will join us: The Joy Ride program is designed to replicate and promote the Girls Rock concept of casual women’s mountain bike rides. Learn more about Joy Ride. Thanks to Ibis, who will be hosting us for this special day. Bell will provide a pre-ride breakfast and will give away some awesome Joy Ride swag. Clif Bar will provide delicious pre-ride nutrition and CamelBak will offer raffle prizes as well. After the ride, come back to Ibis for post-ride beer, cider and snacks provided by Bell, as well as no-host noshes.

We'll roll out to the trails by 10am, where you can expect between 2-4 hours of shred time depending on your Ride Level (see our Ride Levels page for details on mileage, skill, etc.). Earn your calories, then regroup back at Ibis HQ for post-ride beer, snacks and fun!

Location:
Ibis Cycles
2240 Delaware Ave.,

Santa Cruz, CA 95060

(at the intersection of Natural Bridges. Same building as Santa Cruz Nutritionals & Threshold)

Schedule:

  • 9:00 am – Arrival, demo check-outs, fuel & mingling
  • 9:30 am – RIDE GUIDE MEETING for leads and sweeps
  • 9:45 am – Presentations, announcement and raffle!
  • 10:00 - 10:15 am – Roll out to the trails
  • 12:00 - 2:00 pm – Join us post-ride back at Ibis HQ

Rain Plan:

  • If the skies are clear but the ground is soaked, we’ll redirect our ride to asphalt. Bring a road bike if you have one -- or ride your knobbies.
  • If it is raining, the fun will go on! We’ll host indoor edutainment activities designed to help you feel more comfortable out on the trails. Please stay tuned for details and watch the weather the week of the ride.

Parking:

  • Off-street vehicle parking is available in the parking lot in front of Ibis.
  • As for bikes, if you must leave yours unsupervised before or after the ride, secure it inside your vehicle, use a high-quality lock, or bring it inside the Ibis warehouse.

There will also be no-host bites from Kickin’ Chicken! Finally, we’ll raffle off some sweet swag from Ibis, Bell and Camelbak.
